Almost everyone has got some story to tell why it was just a great dane that made him or her so crazily in love with. I'm no different :))

Everything started when I was a youngster and my future-to-be-stepfather asked if he could bring his friend to visit us. Both me and my younger sister were very excited and curious who this "friend" was going to be... Of course you all know that it was a great dane, a magnificent black male named Nero. Since then everything started... Nero didn't live with us as he was seriously sick then and soon he died but for me no other breed existed but great dane. All my childhood I spent with the dogs but my parents agreed to have only small ones so my dream of having this remarkable giant had to be postponed. But I promised myself that some day I would own one.

When I was 22 years old I decided it is high time to fullfill my dream. Without telling anyone I called the breeder and asked about puppies. This is the way I had my first dane, a black female named Penny. She was teaching me everything about her breed, about how affectionate and lovable dogs they are. It was her I started to participate at Dog Shows and explore "the great dane world". She had a long (over 11 years) and good life, she was perfectly healthy so I did have a wrongful point of view about great dane's health in general.

Then we decided that our life is too empty after Penny's death and brought to our home a sweet black male puppy Le Grand Arhus called Szaman between us. He was a sunshine, the sweetest little boy whose life was painfully too short. He died when he was 6 months and 22 days. I couldn't agree he passed so quickly and I was not sure if I ever had another dane.

But after a few months decision was made - let's try one more time. Both me and my sister visited Madame Labrousse and her wonderful great danes of Des Terres de la Rairie and we travelled back to Poland with my beloved Torres des Terres de la Rairie. Maybe some day I will write more about him as he was my biggest friend but after his tragical death at the age of 18 months I am still too angry and despaired to find peace inside me. Since then my dream is to find a genious veterinarian who would never ever make any mistake...

Below you can have a look at Penny and Szaman. If you want to see Torres click at Males chapter. After so many years with great danes I'm much more aware about the health problems they may have, I try to be all the time alerted but I have also realized I cannot forsee everything. One is sure - it's the most remarkable breed existed and I lost my heart and soul for great danes.
